Paragon aluminum hats are precisely machined from lightweight 6061-T6 aerospace grade aluminum and are then black hardcoat / hard anodized to create a non-conductive protective coating. The Mil-spec (MIL-A-8625 Type III) black hardcoat/hard anodized surface is harder, thicker, and more wear and scratch resistant.
Available color options:
Black (dyed): black hardcoat anodized hats are first hard anodized, then dyed black. More prone to discoloration under extreme heat (> 500F / 260C).
Clear (natural): will not discolor under extreme heat. Highly recommended for track/race applications.
Black hardcoat/hard anodizing allows for a thick hard coat which provides advanced corrosion resistance and low-maintenance durability. Black hardcoat/hard anodized surface will hold up better when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, and is even more important if the vehicle is parked outdoor frequently.
***Type III Black hardcoat/hard anodizing of aluminum is considered as a functional surface coating process. While we always aim for color consistency, slight color variations may exist from batch to batch due to the nature and variables in the anodizing process.
